Calhoun City football is kicking off a fundraising campaign to build a new weight room and a “wall of honor.”
The new weight room will be erected where the current visitor’s locker room is on the east end of the field house. The metal building currently there will be moved to the Calhoun
City softball field to be transformed into a locker room for the Lady Wildcats.
The old weight room, which sits behind the field house, will be transformed into a locker room for visiting teams.
“This is something we’ve wanted to do for some time,” Calhoun City Football Coach Perry Liles said. “This will accomplish three things for us – give us a new weight room, give our visitors a better dressing room, and give us a place to honor all Wildcats.”
A brick patio, surrounding a large paw, will be built in front of the new weight room. The bricks will be engraved honoring Wildcats in all sports and Wildcat supporters of all decades.
Those bricks are currently on sale. A 4”X8” brick is $100 and a 12”X12” brick is $150. Each brick can contain three lines with 14 characters per line.
Liles said the engraved bricks aren’t just for football. Fans can purchase bricks to honor past members of all sports, the band, cheerleaders, academic honors, or to recognize local businesses or families.
A “wall of honor” will also be on one side of the patio recognizing the Wildcats’ history – region championships, north half title and state championships.
Liles said the goal is to have the building completed by the start of next football season.
The project has a facebook page under the name “Calhoun City Wildcat Wall of Honor.”
