Weyerhaeuser officials said Tuesday that despite the interruptions in work at the Bruce mill, the facility remains a strong, viable part of the company and will for years to come.
Mike Wolff, public affiars manager, said a number of Weyerhaeuser mills including Bruce have responded to the downturn in the lumber markets by curtailing production to match the current demand.
“We’ll continue to look at that on a week-to-week basis,” Wolff said.
Wolff described the Bruce mill as one of the tops in the company, noting that it consistently performs in the top quartile in terms of safety, utilization and costs.
“The Bruce mill is in a very strong position when the market turns around,” Wolff said.
He also noted that Weyerhaeuser wants to maintain a strong presence in the community.
“We want to stay active in the community,” Wolff said. “The facility there has partenred well with the community and we expect to continue doing all we can.”
