Bad weather conditions contributed to a number of wrecks last week around the county. Chris Conner, 36, of Slate Springs, was airlifted from a crash scene on
Hwy. 9 south of the Hwys. 8-9 intersection last Thursday around 11:30
Conner was driving a New Holland tractor down the highway and was hit by a log truck when Conner attempted to turn on to CR 368.
The tractor was broken in half by the impact and Conner was pinned
underneath off the side of the road. The fully-loaded log truck also
overturned spilling its logs.
The driver of the truck was 53-year-old Larry Pope of Philadelphia. An update wasn’t available on Conner’s condition who had been released
from the hospital the day after the wreck, only to return with reported
Friday morning, Karen Owens of Bruce and her son Hunter were involved
in a crash on Hwy. 32 east of Bruce when the pickup she was driving
hydroplaned, leaving the road where it rolled over before coming to a
stop against a large tree stump.
Both were wearing seatbelts, which firemen on the scene said likely saved their lives. Both were transported by ambulance to the hospital where they were treated and released. Later that same morning a FedEx truck crashed against a bridge on Hwy.
341 north of Vardaman. No one was injured in that accident. Several other minor accidents were reported as well.
