Wendell Blount, of Calhoun City, has been taken into custody in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. after being on the run for six months.
BlountBlount, 58, fled Calhoun County in April after being convicted of vehicular manslaughter when he hit and killed bicyclist Esther Hageman with his SUV on the Natchez Trace. He was facing more than 30 years in prison.
Blount fled the weekend before he was scheduled to report to jail and has been sought by the U.S. Marshal’s service ever since.
A source from the U.S. Marshal’s office said they located Blount through an informant. Blount had been staying at a disbarred lawyer’s house in Baton Rouge.
Blount and the attorney were attempting to get documents in order for Blount to get out of the country.
When U.S. Marshals got to the house, Blount and the lawyer attempted to go out a rear window, but were captured.
U.S. Marshall Jeff Woodfin said Blount would eventually be returned to Oxford to face sentencing. Blount may face additional charges for absconding supervision.
Woodfin said he couldn’t say for certain when Blount would be transported back to North Mississippi.
