Vardaman native Odie Armstrong and the Arizona Rattlers are vying for National Conference Championship tonight, Aug. 10, at the ArenaBowl XXV in New Orleans.
The Rattlers will take on the American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul. The game is will be shown at 9:30 p.m. on the NFL network. The game promises to be a special event for the league’s silver anniversary championship game from the New Orleans arena.
Tonight will be Arizona’s eighth Arena Bowl appearance on a quest to claim the third title in franchise history.
The Rattlers got to the championship by beating the Utah Blaze in which Armstrong was named AFL Playmaker of the game. They started off the game with Armstrong taking a pitch from quarterback Nick Davila, for a 40-yard rushing touchdown, giving the Rattlers an early 7-0 lead. The next Rattler drive was highlighted by an 18-yard run by Armstrong, which ended up in a field goal. The Rattlers won the game 75-69.
Armstrong leads the Rattlers in rushing and rushing touchdowns. He is a former ICC standout who also played at Northwest Oklahoma State.
