The Vardaman Rams won their second consecutive game and took early control of Region 1-1A with a 13-7 home win over rival Smithville.
The first came at the end of a 78-yard drive. The second covered 45 yards.
It was a big night for the Vardaman defense who forced five turnovers and made the plays when they had to. Two of the turnovers were interceptions by Donta Walker. Ta West also had an interception and a fumble recovery. Dillon Landreth also had a fumble recovery.
Smithville's only points in the game came midway through the fourth quarter when quarterback Drew Lann connected with Tyler Hood for a 26-yard score to cut the lead to 13-7 with just under six minutes to play.
Jenkins would break-up a fourth down pass at midfield to end the 'Noles next possession.
The Ram defense had to step up one last time when Smithville drove deep into Ram's territory and was aided by a pass interference call in the end zone.
The Vardaman defense held, however, sacking Lann on fourth down to preserve the win.
The Rams, 2-0 in region play, will host H.W. Byers Friday.
