Bruce dropped its playoff game to Belmont while the Wildcats defeated Wheeler to get a leg up in their series.
Belmont topped the Trojans 14-2 in game one of the best of three series. Game two of the second round playoff series will be Friday night in Belmont.
Caleb Hanley took the loss for the Trojans. Derek Whitfield earned the win for Belmont.
Belmont scored in all but one inning while racking up 17 hits. The Trojans mustered only four, including a home run by Blake Peden that accounted for the Bruce runs.
Game three will be Saturday in Bruce at 1 p.m., if necessary.
Calhoun City had a better time in their second round Class 1A series with Wheeler. The Wildcats won the opening game at Wheeler 5-3 behind the pitching of Charlie Easley. Raheem Roberson earned the save.
Tyler Gray, Roberson, Easley, Josh Warren, Colby Havens, Tae Lawrence, Jarvis Rounds, Braedan Reynolds, and Eric Childs all had hits in the game.
The Wildcats will host Wheeler at 6 p.m. Friday with a chance to close out the series.
