The 39th annual Vardaman Sweet Potato Festival will conclude Saturday night with the annual banquet at the Vardaman High School gym.
Tickets are available at BancorpSouth in Vardaman and at the pageant Thursday night for $10. Tickets at the door Saturday night will be $15.
This year’s entertainment will be provided by Wilton Neal, former Carroll County Tax Assessor. Neal has spoken throughout the region sharing his “old yarns” and “good ole humor.”
The annual awards, including Tater Boy, Pioneer Award, Mama Grace Award and Outstanding Young Farmer will be presented at the banquet.
The Best Washed and Graded Bushel of Sweet Potatoes and the 2012 Sweet Potato Quilt will be auctioned with the proceeds going to Friendship Baptist Church.
This year’s quilt was pieced by Mrs. Laudrey Alexander and quilted by Mrs. Nelda Moore, both members of Friendship.
Awards will also be presented for the annual Sweet Potato Recipe Contest.
The contest is open to anyone with an original sweet potato recipe. All dishes have to be turned in to the Vardaman School Cafeteria by 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. The judging will begin at 1 p.m.
Out-of-town judges will choose winners from each category and will select an over-all winner from the blue ribbon winners of each category. The overall winner will be presented the Mayor's Cup Award at the banquet.
