Lady Rams, Trojans Win At Sweet Potato Tourney

Bruce and Vardaman basketball teams were all in action Monday at the Sweet Potato Tournament in Vardaman.
Bruce opened the tournament with boys’ and girls’ games against West Point. The Lady Green Wave took the opener 81-55. Morgan Vickery and Lesley Wayne each scored 11 to lead Bruce. Jasmine Hampton and Ranesha Stokes each added 10 points.
The boys defeated West Point 55-52 behind 31 points from Shaunvanta Ingram. Marcell Gaston scored 10 for the Trojans.
The Vardaman Lady Rams defeated Caledonia 55-47 in the first game of the night session. Rasheika Thompson led the Lady Rams with 15 points. Jicobe Jones and Kelsey Nelson each scored 14.
The Rams were defeated in the final game against Caledonia 55-47. Sergio Prescott and Gene Ruth led the Rams with 13 and 12 points respectively.
Bruce and Caledonia girls played Tuesday with the winner advancing to play Friday at noon against the loser of Calhoun City and West Point.
West Point and Vardaman boys played Tuesday night with the winner advancing to play the loser of Tuesday night’s Bruce – Calhoun City game at 1:30 p.m. Friday.
The Vardaman girls will play the winner of the Calhoun City – West Point game at 3 p.m. Friday in the championship. Caledonia boys will play in the championship Friday at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of Tuesday’s Bruce – Calhoun City game.
