Some of the many reasons I love Christmas

I love sitting by the fire with a warm cup of coffee, listening to Bing Crosby sing as I watch the lights on our Christmas tree twinkle.

I love the way 4-year-old granddaughter Addi Claire’s eyes light up when she talks about Santa Claus.
I love the smell of a Christmas candle, beautifully wrapped presents, wishes for snow and the Bruce and Calhoun City squares decorated in lights.

There are so many things I love about Christmas.
I love the sweet treats many of our loyal readers bring by The Journal – such as the pecan pie muffins Joice Maddox dropped off last week.
I love driving by David and Teresa Martin’s house in Derma every chance I get at five miles an hour.

I love opening Christmas cards in the mail. I love the warm wishes from total strangers and the cool, crisp December air.
There are so many things I love about Christmas.

I love reading kids’ Santa letters, even when they’re asking for things I’ve never heard of. I love Christmas specials on TV and traditional favorites on my radio like Dean Martin’s version of “Silver Bells,” Elvis’ “Blue Christmas” and Gene Autry’s “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.”

I love catching candy at each of the Christmas parades in the county, the sight of a marching band coming around the square and the creativity of some of the floats.
There are so many things I love about Christmas.

I love helping the Bruce Rotary Club with their annual Christmas basket project. I love the amazing depth of giving within this county and the countless selfless acts this time of year that go unreported and even unnoticed.
I love time with our families, my mom’s great cooking and memories of Christmases past.

There are so many things I love about Christmas.
I love live Christmas trees with colored lights and tinsel. I actually enjoy holiday shopping for my family. I love hearing Nat King Cole sing about roasting chestnuts and bells ringing on street corners.

I love red ribbons, green garland and bright colored lights.
I love Miracle on 34th Street, Holiday Inn, It’s a Wonderful Life and all the other classic Christmas movies like Die Hard. I’m serious.

I love tacky decorations, ugly sweaters, and even a bad pecan pie, if there is such a thing.
There are so many things I love about Christmas.

I love the outreach of our churches, the celebrations of life and the forgiveness of the season.
I love the hope, peace, caring and joy that Christmas brings.
I love Christmas and I hope yours is merry and bright.
