Rudy Armstrong

When Calhoun City Biology teacher, Coach Josh Miller, fried Snickers candy bars for his class one time, Rudy Armstrong didn’t really like the Snickers, but thought he could use the same recipe with Oreo cookies. So he tried it when he got home.

“It gets messy, real messy, with pancake batter everywhere. But the more you do it, the less mess it is,” he said.
Rudy, a 2013 graduate of CCHS and 2015 graduate of Northwest, will be a junior at Ole Miss this fall. He likes to cook for his friends in Calhoun City on weekends when he’s home.

Rudy Armstrong CookHe says what they like are the fried Oreos and Rotel dip. In his Rotel, he uses sausage and queso blanco cheese, and “always Doritos” to eat with it.

He didn’t start cooking until he was out of high school. The very first time he cooked, the meal consisted of  pork chops, macaroni and cheese, and biscuits. He has started to look at recipes this year and the internet is the source he likes to use.
Last year he wanted to bake the ham for Christmas, so his dad, Michael, agreed, saying “it’s on you if nobody likes it!”

It turned out well, and he says turkey is probably the next holiday thing he will make.
He likes to grill, especially chicken and pork chops, but his favorite is smoked sausage. He marinades the chicken and pork chops in Italian two hours before grilling, and bastes them with honey mustard while they are cooking.
Barbecue chili dogs are something he really likes, too, and his favorite cake is Butterfinger, which he hasn’t made yet. An employee of Piggly Wiggly, he likes the desserts that Becky Wright brings in for them to sample.
