A new promotional poster promoting Vardaman sweet potatoes as the “best in the country” was unveiled last Friday at the Sweet Potato Sweet Shop in Vardaman.
The poster – a marketing tool developed by the Mississippi Sweet Potato Council – was unveiled by Vardaman Mayor James Casey and Council Secretary Benny Graves.
“I’m proud to report that high quality sweet potatoes will be plentiful this year,” Graves told the crowd. “Early harvest conditions have been excellent with many above average yields reported. Demand for Vardaman sweet potatoes has been strong with brisk movement. Sweet potato lovers should make a note to stock up now.”
The promotional poster, which will be on display at all 12 of Mississippi’s welcome centers as well as numerous restaurants around the state, features original artwork of a nostalgic 1956 International truck filled with “beautiful, nutritious sweet potatoes” and surrounded with a flowering vine.
Graves said the poster will also be a centerpiece of this fall’s ad campaign.
The poster will also be displayed, and be available for purchase, during the 37th Annual Sweet Potato Festival Saturday, Nov. 6 on Main Street in Vardaman.
