Bruce and Calhoun City will host Memorial Day services on their respective squares Monday, May 31.
The Calhoun City program will begin at 10 a.m. and include music, a 21-gun salute and speaker. The planned speaker had not been finalized as of press time.
The Bruce program will begin at 11 a.m. CW2 Donald Melton, a 36-year veteran of the Mississippi National Guard who recently returned from a tour of duty in Iraq, will be the featured speaker.
Melton, who was born and raised in Bruce, currently serves as Chief Warrant Officer with the 2-114th Field Artillery in Starkville. Other highlights of the program will include Mamie Tedford singing the national anthem, the posting of the colors by local National Guardsmen, and presentations by the VFW’s Grady Ferguson and Jerry Janci.
