The race for the Bruce mayor’s position now has three candidates. Richard Freelon officially qualified last week for the May 6 special election.
Former mayor Chick Hensley turned in his qualifying petition Wednesday morning. He had turned in his petition once before, but returned to City Hall later and withdrew it.
Qualifying ends on Wednesday, April 16 at 5 p.m.
Freelon served one term on the board with fellow candidate and former alderman Robert Edward Oakley. Freelon resigned from the board during the current term when he moved to a different ward.
Hensley served as mayor two years prior to Jesse Quillen taking office. Hensley resigned from the position two years into that term.
