Pittsboro board of Aldermen spent the bulk of their meeting Tuesday trying to determine where excess water pumped from the town’s wells is going.

Town reports showed 1.6 million gallons of water are sold each month while four million gallons are being pumped by the wells.
“We can’t have a 2.4 million gallon leak. We’d have water all over town,” Mayor Reda Bullard said.
“The wells are running six hours a day. I’ve gone everywhere I know to go and I can’t find water anywhere,” Pittsboro Water Dept. Director Charles Mahan said.

“There’s something wrong somewhere,” Alderman Jimmy Franklin said.
The board continued to be stumped by high electricity bills for the town from the two wells also. They agreed to look into it further to see the cause of both and the potential of them being linked. Some questions were raised on people using the faucet connected to the fire hydrant outside the fence at the county airport. The board asked Mahan to remove the faucet from the plug.
