Local players studying college football options

With National Signing Day less than a month away, several Calhoun County football players are considering offers as to where they may play collegiately next season.

The two most sought after players thus far appear to be Bruce Trojans Rashad Turner and Deshawn Tillman.

Turner, who had nearly 700 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns to go with four interceptions on defense during his senior  season, is currently being sought by Alcorn State University, Mississippi Valley State, Delta State and Northeast, Itawamba and East Mississippi community colleges.

Tillman, fresh off his start at defensive end in the Bernard Blackwell All Star Game, is also being recruited by Alcorn and Mississippi Valley along with community colleges Northeast, ICC, East Mississippi and Hinds.

The Trojans’ leading tackler the past two seasons, Jonathan Bobo, is receiving interest from Mississippi Valley, Northeast Community College and ICC.

Shaq Bush, who broke nearly every receiving record at Bruce, is being recruited by Northeast, ICC and East Mississippi.

Northeast Community College is also pursuing Bruce QB?Davis Brown and LB/RB Benjamin Williams.

Kardevin Thomas, a 330-pound defensive lineman and champion powerlifter for Calhoun City has also received attention from community colleges and is said to be favoring Northwest Community College.

Donta Walker, a standout wide receiver, defensive back for Vardaman, is being recruited by ICC.
