The Bruce Lady Trojans will be hard pressed to earn a more exciting win than they did last Friday against Vardaman.
Trailing 8-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Trojans rallied for eight runs and a 9-8 win.
“That seventh inning was absolutely wild,” Coach Seth Burt said. “We had several girls come up with big hits. We were able to get some girls on base and string together six straight hits. I’m proud of the girls for winning the game, but even more proud of them for not giving up and quitting. The weather was tough enough, especially against a really good team like Vardaman.”
Bruce trailed 8-6 when Summer Mulkey came up with runners on second and third. She delivered the game-tying hit up the middle. Julianna Cain entered as a pinch-runner and scored when Emily Logan got a bunt down that was thrown away at first base.
Abbie Patton earned the win for Bruce, striking out seven. Laken Shankle led the offense with three hits. Shankle and Jessica Aron both had doubles in the game.
Bruce was coming off a 9-6 loss to Water Valley in 8 innings. They led 5-3 entering the seventh before losing in extra innings.
Morgan Ellard had three hits in the game and Patton two. Shankle and Patton each hit a double.
The Lady Trojans are scheduled to host Eupora Thursday.
