Bruce topped Water Valley 10-6 last Friday night. Ashley Hubbard, Laken Shankle, Cameron McCormick, Mollie Hellums, and Brittany Griffin all had two hits in the game. McCormick and Griffin had doubles.
“We beat a very good Water Valley team tonight,” coach Burt said. “We were able to have a big second inning where we scored eight runs to take an 8-2 lead and were able to hang on for the win. The only disappointing thing we did was not expand our lead. We’ve got to do a better job of not having dry innings offensively especially with division play starting.”
Lisa Wells came in relief of Hannah Burt on the mound and pitched a strong game.
“We are starting to do the things it takes night in-night out to be a good team,” Burt said. “The biggest thing is that the girls are competing like crazy in all aspects of the game and it’s fun to watch them continue to get better.”
The Lady Trojans were defeated by Eupora 13-2 last week.
Multiple hitters for Bruce were Ashley Hubbard, Cameron McCormick, Brittany Griffin, and Jerianna Aron. Hubbard and McCor-mick each had doubles.
“The final score was not indicative of how close the game was,” Coach Seth Burt said. “We had a 2-0 lead with two outs in the 5th inning and allowed four runs to score and from that point on the floodgates kind of opened on us. We had chances early to break the game open but were unable to cash in. When you play a good team like Eupora, you have to take advantage of your opportunities and we didn’t do that tonight.”
Monday night the Lady Trojans lost to Oxford 12-9. Brittany Griffin had a double for Bruce.
