Feb. 5, 2004 – The last weekend in January was one to remember. Our good friend Bill Cook of Batesville, who had been in the hospital in Southaven for almost two weeks, died from heart trouble and a number of complications. He seemed to be on the mend, but his heart finally quit.

Jan. 23, 2003 – One of our most used Christmas gifts is a new home computer, from daughters Celia and Lisa and son-in-law Joel. We had a vintage model, which doesn’t necessarily mean very old, but this was one of the first PowerMacs, used at the office for several years and then brought home when it became too obsolete for the rest of the system.

Jan. 9, 2002 – As far back as I can remember we have hosted a family Christmas dinner at our house. One of my favorite memories of Christmas is my father, who died in a automobile wreck more than 20 years ago, sitting on the couch with our then very young daughters reading with great animation "The Night Before Christmas."

Dec. 20, 2001 – This year the Bruce Rotary Club, again under the leadership of Rotarian Paul Wood, prepared and sold 200 Boston Butts. It is a three day process, which begins with a "butt-dusting party," a title that was developed during the first effort.

Dec. 6, 2000 – A month ago today, Thursday, Sid Salter and I were in the John Grisham Room at the Mississippi State University Library to give a postmortem of the Presidential election earlier that week.
