Calhoun City has been approved for a $400,000 CDBG grant for sewer lagoon improvements, Mayor J.R. Denton said last night at the town’s monthly board meeting.
He said that application was made at the same time for a $480,000 Rural Development Loan for the sewer project and painting the water tank, which they also received.
At the recommendation of Mayor Denton, the board voted to accept the grant for the sewer project, turn down the loan, and not paint the water tank at this time.
The aldermen held a budget hearing in which Denton said they had a “no-frills” budget, basically the same as last year. Included in the budget are expected expenses for gas/oil and the $1,500 salary increases for full time employees.
Approval was given for a bid from Ball Building Supply for $670 for bleacher boards and a bathroom sink at the baseball field. The aldermen amended the bid for up to $700 to also include painting the framework of the two sets of bleachers to be redone. The baseball team will provide the labor.
The mayor presented a resolution of appreciation in recognition of the late S. Gale Denley for his service, support and dedication to the city and county, which was read by board attorney Terry James.
The board ended the meeting in executive session to discuss a Park and Recreation matter.
