Calhoun Academy junior high basketball has enjoyed one of its greatest seasons in a very long time.
IMG_1730Both the girls’ and boys’ teams ran away with the regular season district title and head into next week’s district tournament at Winona as the number one seed.
“It’s been a great year,” said Headmaster Sonny Wright, who coaches the girls’ team. “We’re very proud of all of our kids.”
His girls finished the regular season 16-4. The boys are 16-1 and unbeaten in the division.
“This is the first time the boys have won a title in 27 years,” Coach Forrest Daws said.
Both teams wrapped up the regular season last week with a pair of wins over Hebron and Kemper.
The girls topped Hebron 27-16. Anber Flemons led with nine points. Anna Grace Turner scored seven.
They followed that with a 35-7 win against Kemper. Turner led all scorers with 18 points. Miranda McCormick scored six.
