Emptying Recycle Trailers An Issue PDF Print E-mail

Getting more recycle trailers and getting them emptied in a timely fashion were issues addressed by the Board of Supervisors last Friday.
The county has currently secured trailers for Pittsboro, Calhoun City and Vardaman, but said they need to get one for Bruce.
“We need to get that done,” Supervisor J.B. Rogers said.
The board suggested the recycle trailers in Pittsboro and Calhoun City have been so well used thus far it’s created problems getting them emptied on time.
“It’s going to defeat the purpose if we can’t keep them emptied,” Board President Barney Wade said.
“We’ve got to do something,” Supervisor Earnest Fox said. “They get full and people are still bringing their garbage and it just gets put on the ground and can end up everywhere.”
Board members said the loaded trailers require a 3/4 or 1-ton truck to pull them  to the recycle center in Oxford and none of the county districts had one suitable for such a task.
The board agreed to look for a used 1-ton to purchase. Chancery Clerk Jess Moore said they could use his truck in the short-term to haul the trailers to Oxford.
In other business, County Engineer Chodie Myers gave reports on several projects. He received approval for $3,000 of additional rock needed around a box culvert on CR 448. He said he was looking into an energy efficiency grant for the courthouse through MDA. He said they would also apply for a separate grant through the state energy program.
In other business, the board agreed not to start spraying roadsides until January and displayed one of the new highway signs to be put up identifying Calhoun County as the home of Major Gen. Fox Conner.
