Veterans' Day Programs Today In Bruce, 'City PDF Print E-mail

Bruce and Calhoun City will honor local veterans at public services on the respective squares this Wednesday morning (Nov. 11).
The Calhoun City program will begin at 10 a.m. Program participants include Mayor J.R. Denton, First Baptist Pastor Dax Summerhill, Todd Cospelich, Joy Gosa with the 858th Support Group, and Rotary President Michael Watkins.
Tim Hardaway will perform the National Anthem and Col. Edwin Boland, USAF retired, will lead the singing of “America The Beautiful.”
The featured speaker will be  Eupora native Henry Ross. Ross is a Navy veteran and former mayor of Eupora. He also recently served in the US Department of Justice following an appointment by President George W. Bush.
The program will conclude with the placement of wreaths, 21-gun salute, and playing of “Taps.”
The Bruce program will begin on the square at 11 a.m. Jerry Janci will serve as program emcee.
Mamie Tedford will open the service with the national anthem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and invocation led by Rev. Joe Barnett.
Bruce Mayor Robert Edward Oakley will welcome everyone to the square prior to yielding to the featured speaker, Army Lt. Col. Mike Young – retired, who also served as longtime Bruce Elementary principal.
Janci will follow with a patriotic reading and Grady Ferguson, VFW?Post Commander, will briefly address the crowd.
Rex Wilburn will offer the closing prayer to be followed by the playing of “Taps.”
