By JOEL McNEECE Daniel Blount told the Calhoun City Chamber Tuesday at lunch that the new Kidz World furniture operation in Calhoun City is operating at a faster pace than some suppliers can keep up with. Blount, who manages The Comfort Zone on the Calhoun City Square, said Kidz World – the children’s furniture plant that opened a month ago in the former Kellwood building – has enough orders to operate five to six lines. The plant is currently utilizing two lines, each producing 500 pieces a day. “They have enough orders already to carry them through March,” Blount said. The plant is currently employing 48. Blount said that could be extended by up to 30 early next year if they can resolve some supply issues. Blount said fabric companies can’t produce enough fabric to meet the company’s demand right now. In an unrelated matter, Blount said they recently opened a satellite store for The Comfort Zone in Ridgeland and had a great experience with the chamber of commerce there. “We made one phone call to the chamber and they had our power turned on, phone lines, cable, everything we needed with just one call,” Blount said. Blount said he would like for the ‘City Chamber to provide some service similar to that for new businesses in our area. In other news from the chamber meeting, Sister Judy Sinnwell of the Green Committee reported almost four tons have been recycled through the countywide effort thus far. Sinnwell said they are in the process of securing a recycling bin for Vardaman. Currently there are bins located in Pittsboro and Calhoun City. Chamber President Barbara Fox encouraged everyone to come to the City Sidewalk Celebration on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 5-7:30 p.m. The annual event will feature Christmas trees, wreaths, swags, ornaments and more for purchase and part of an auction. Soup, desserts, and drinks will be offered for $6. The event is a fundraiser for the Beautification Committee. Fox also thanked the New Century Club for their leadership with the recent Octoberfest. A representative of the new Mexican restaurant coming to the former Factory Connection building on the west side of the square was in attendance and said it would be January before the restaurant would be ready to open. |
