By JOEL McNEECE Two Halloween-themed festivals in Calhoun County this week will offer children opportunities for fun. The 14th Annual Octoberfest on the Calhoun City Square will be Saturday, Oct. 24 from noon-2 p.m. The festival was originally scheduled for Thursday night, but was changed to Saturday due to expected rain. Festivities will include games, a costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, Master Gardeners' scarecrow display and live entertainment. Concessions will be available at the New Century Club sponsored event. The costume contest will begin at 12 p.m. The pumpkin contest, sponsored by Piggly Wiggly, will be judged at 1 p.m. Spots are available on the square for $20. To reserve a spot you must visit City Hall, Southern Discount Drugs or the chamber office. Call 628-8988 for more information. Later in the day Saturday, local civic clubs will host the 2nd Annual Fall Festival on South Newberger in Bruce. The event, from 5-8 p.m., is for children 12 and under. They must be accompanied by an adult. Planned events include trunk-or-treat, putt-putt, a Halloween costume contest, jumpers, lots of food, and more. |
