The Derma Board of Aldermen approved the installation of four new stop signs in town at last week’s meeting. A new four-way stop has been installed at the intersection of North Main and East Enoch Streets. A three-way stop sign has been installed at the intersection of North Main and North Strong Streets.
In other news, the board approved the purchase of a Taser gun for Police Chief John Harrison, in spite of Mayor Dock Gabbert’s objection.
Harrison requested the purchase for the department, but in an ensuing discussion Gabbert voiced his opposition based on “liability concerns.”
The board unanimously approved Harrison’s request noting he would be responsible for the gun.
Dianne Jennings met with the board to discuss a “police matter.” No action was taken.
The board approved the 2007-08 audit as presented by Ronnie Windham and the $2,500 bill from Windham.
The board tabled the request for the town’s annual contribution for “Calhoun County Economic Development.”
Following an executive session, the board voted 4-1 to award a 5% pay increase to town employees Shirley Herrod, Deneen James, John Harrison, Shane Childs, and Kelly Hardin. Alderman David Martin was the lone dissenting vote.
