Bruce Sales Tax Returns Start New Year With Increase PDF Print E-mail

Sales tax returns in July, the start of the new fiscal year, were up in Bruce and Vardaman compared to 2008. That was opposite most places in the state for the month.
Bruce returned $40,293 in July compared to $36,913 in July of 2008. Vardaman's increase was more slight, but an increase none-the-less. The Sweet Potato Capital returned $8,776 compared to $8,220 in 2008.
Slate Springs recorded the only other increase in the county – from $368 to $438.
Other totals from around the county included Calhoun City – $26,551 in 2009 compared to $29,047 in July 2008. Derma was down $4,795 to $4,118. Big Creek was down from $780 to $409. Pittsboro dropped from $441 to $247.
The state overall was down from $33.4 million to $33.1 million.
