No discussion or participation was raised at Calhoun City' s hearing for their 2010 fiscal year  budget last night at their regular meeting, which was also set as the budget hearing.
Mayor pro tem  Larry  Bratton presided in the absence of Mayor, J. R. Denton, who was out of town.
The board set Thursday, Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m. to adopt the budget.
In the matter of purchasing  a new Jaws of Life to replace the one purchased in 1983 and presently in use, the board approved the low bid of Sunbelt Fire of Fairhope, Al. for $21,300.
The only other bid was offered by Hurst Jaws of Life of  Shelby, N. C. for $23,120. Bratton said that Sunbelt will also provide parts to upgrade the old Jaws of Life, which will be available to the Derma Fire Department on loan.
Payment was approved to Willis Engineering for $2,674 for preliminary and design work for  the sewer lagoon for which there is a community development block grant. Municipal Works Director  Perry Goodson said the work is expected to begin Sept. 14.
A representative of the U.S. Census Bureau, who was expected to be at the meeting to talk about the upcoming census, sent word that she will be there for the October meeting instead.
