Preparations are well underway for the 2009 Calhoun County Fair July 27 – August 1.
Exhibits books are currently available at the Extension Office in Pittsboro and libraries at Bruce, Calhoun City and Vardaman.
The first event of the fair will be the “Fairest of the Fair” pageant on Monday, July 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro.
Contestants must be a resident of Calhoun County or member of Calhoun County 4-H. The deadline to enter is July 24. Entry fees are $25 for Beauty/Photogenic, Photogenic only for $10, Beauty only $15. Contestants must wear Western wear only (jeans or long denim skirt (below knee), long-sleeved western wear type shirt with collar, cowboy hat and western boots). Age divisions: 0-12 Months Baby Miss, 13-23 Months Toddler Miss, 2-3 Years Tiny Miss, 4-5 Years Little Miss, 6-8 years Petite Miss, 9-11 Years Pre-Teen Miss, 12-14 Years Teen Miss, 15-18 Years Miss, 0-12 Months Baby Mr., 13-23 Months Toddler Mr., 2-3 Years Tiny Mr., 4-6 Years Little Mr.
Other Fair events will include the Ugly Lamp Contest, Biggest Watermelon and Cantaloupe, Youth Pig Scramble, Youth Rodeo, Pet Show, Youth Cook-Off, Baking Contest, Pea Shelling Contest, Round Robin Roping for adult and youth, carnival rides and much more.
