| Sales Tax Returns Down In Calhoun |

By JOEL McNEECE Sales tax returns overall are down around the county entering the final two months of the fiscal year. Bruce still leads the county in total returns at $352,539, but is down almost $25,000 from this time last year. Calhoun City is actually up almost $3,000 from last year’s total at this time with $282,140 reported thus far in 2009. Vardaman is up this year with $86,322 in returns thus far compared to $81,286 at this date last year. Derma is down slightly from $46,837 in 2008 to $44,320 this year. Big Creek is down from $7,088 in 2008 to $6,077 in 2009. Slate Springs has held virtually equally with only a $150 difference at $4,227 returned this year. Pittsboro also remained stable with $5,282 in sales tax returns so far this year, compared to $5,396 last year. Salex tax returns for the state are down almost $8 million. |
