Three people were injured in a Saturday morning wreck near Banner.
James and Annette Giompoletti, of Bruce, and Mi-chael L. Greer, Water Valley, were all hospitalized after the wreck that happened around 5 a.m. near L.H. Johnson’s produce farm.
The Giompolettis, who deliver the Daily Journal newspaper in Bruce, were on their way back from getting the newspaper.
State Trooper Jason Terrell said the couple had seen horses in the road and possibly turned around going north on Hwy 9W to lead them off the road.
Terrell said they were travelling 10-15 mph with their hazard lights on behind the horses when their vehicle, a 2000 S10, was struck from behind by a 1999 Chevrolet Z-71 driven by Greer.
The Chevrolet then overturned, partially blocking the north bound lane, Terrell said.
Mrs. Giompoletti, who was extracted by emergency personnel from the vehicle, was airlifted from the scene to North Mississippi Medical Center. Mr. Giompoletti was taken by private car to NMMC.
Greer was transported by ambulance to Baptist Hospital in Oxford.
