Jim Eldridge Green, 93, of Pittsboro, died February 18, 2012 at his home. He was born May 1, 1918 in Pittsboro, the son of Henry Hood and Sarah Ethie Murphree Green. He was a farmer and member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church. His hobbies were hunting and fishing and he was an avid sportsman who loved his horses and dogs, and was “the best dad in the world to his family.” |

David George Bray, 82, of Vardaman, died February 19, 2012 at Calhoun Health Services in Calhoun City. He was born July 22, 1929 in Houston, the son of Frances Marion and Tempie Jane James Bray. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and served as a deacon. He was retired from the Mississippi Forestry Commission. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. |

Betty F Schaefer, 79, of Elkhorn and formerly of Lyons, WI passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012 in Green Bay, WI. She was born Feb 6, 1933 in Bruce, to the late Andrew and Mary Brasher. She married young in life and was a single mother of three by age 22. She worked hard to make sure they never did without the necessities, by waitressing, then folding stockings at the Hosiery Mill in Grenada. In June of 1964 while vacationing and visiting friends in Lyons, she bravely decided to pack up her kids, a small u-haul trailer and move to Walworth County area from Grenada. She then met Richard Schaefer and they were married September 25, 1965 in Elkhorn. They made their home in Lyons where they owned and operated Lyons Market until it burned in January 1979. They relocated to Elkhorn where he managed the ACE Hardware store. She enjoyed her job for over 30 years caring for the residents at Walworth County Retirement Home in Elkhorn (Lakeland Nursing Home) until she retired in 1994 due to health reasons. She continued her presence at the home by volunteering until 2006. She worked at the resale shop and sold baked goods to help raise money for buying a special van to transport residents. |

Cathy Leigh Dunton Weaver, 52, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012 at her home in Water Valley, after a long battle with cancer. She was a homemaker and enjoyed reading, cooking, cross-stitching, taking pictures, playing with her cats and spending time with her grandchildren. |

The memorial service for Rufus Albert Gilder, 71, of Southaven was at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2010 at Longview Point Baptist Church in Hernando. Burial was in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven. A retired truck driver, he was born September 13, 1940 in Vardaman to the late Rufus Rivers and Naomi Spratlin Gilder. He died February 7. |
