The defending Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) champion Itawamba Community College Lady Indians entered the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) preseason poll as the No. 13 team in the nation when the poll was announced on Thursday.
The Lady Indians, who are coming off a 26-3 season, are returning one starter in sophomore center Jasmine Hampton (Bruce) and three key reserves Ty-Nita Baker (Houston), Ayanna Lynn (Indianola) and Ashley Wiley (Jackson) from last year’s squad that advanced to the NJCAA Region 23 semifinals.
“We are excited about the preseason rankings,” said 2011-12 MACJC Women’s Coach of the Year Nanci Gray. “Hopefully this will help motivate the girls to work harder, but right now we are focusing on getting ready for our season opener against an extremely tough Shelton State team.”
Shelton State Community College comes to Fulton as the No. 7 team in the nation in the women’s preseason poll topped by Northwest Florida State College.
ICC will host Shelton State on Monday, November 5th with the Lady Indians tipping off at 5:30 and the Indians to follow at 7:30 p.m.
