Calhoun County School District, Parents for Public Schools and Excel are hosting a program for grandparents who are the primary caregivers for their grandchildren.
This program will be held at Excel on the Square in Calhoun City and is open to residents of the county. The focus of the program is to help grandparents navigate the ins and outs of the education system that has changed so much from when they were parents with children in the system.
The session will be held Tuesday, September 17 at Excel on the Square from 7:00- 8:30PM. There is no cost. Preregistration is required. Call: 628-5165 or 412-3152
Possible topics: using technology to communicate with teachers; using the internet to find report card grades, be aware of homework and understand assignments; be familiar with the skills learned at the different grades; know of accelerated programs; understand attendance issues.
Participants are invited to give input on concerns they face. Parents for Public Schools sponsored a similar session in Tupelo in late July.
Doris Renshaw, a grandparent who helped coordinate the Tupelo event said: “It provides a resource that grandparents can trust and shows them they are not alone in their situation.”
