The Vardaman Rams became the 11th shutout victim of the number one ranked Durant Tigers Friday night. Durant used a deep passing attack and solid defense to end the Rams’ season with a 42-0 victory in the Class 1A North Half Semifinals.
Durant will advance to face Okolona for the North Half Title and the right to advance to Jackson for a state championship.
The Rams’ season comes to an end with a 9-4 record.
Durant wasted little time pouncing on the Rams. Cortez Frizell, who finished with 137 yards rushing on 20 carries, broke off a 44-yard touchdown run on the Tigers’ third offensive play for a quick 7-0 lead.
Later in the first half it was a 27-yard touchdown pass from William Robinson, Jr. to Jose Patterson that pushed the Tiger lead to 14-0.
They would add a 3-yard touchdown run by Frizell midway through the second quarter for a 21-0 advantage at the half.
That grew to 28-0 with a 15-yard scoring run by Frizell early in the third quarter.
The Rams best scoring opportunity came late in the third quarter, but they were stuffed on fourth and one from the Durant six yard line.
Another scoring opportunity ended with a fumble at the 3-yard line that was picked up by Durant’s Cedric Commons and returned 97 yards for a touchdown.
The only fourth quarter touchdown came on an 18-yard touchdown run by Antwan Bailey for the 42-0 final.
