A traffic stop in Derma last Friday afternoon led to three drug arrests by local law enforcement.
Sheriff Billy Mac Gore said Derma policeman Charlie Jackson pulled into Wayne’s One Stop in Derma behind a vehicle after seeing it run a nearby stop sign. Derma Chief John Harrison was also at the scene as the two approached the car, where they quickly smelled a strong marijuana odor.
They discovered six ounces of marijuana during a vehicle search and called the Calhoun Sheriff’s Department for support, Gore said.
Deputies Byron Talford and Dean Poynor arrived on scene to assist in the arrest of David Owens, 31, and Jennifer Owens, 25, both of Pontotoc.
Based on information obtained from the scene, another search warrant was issued for the Carl Pass home on Wells Street in Derma, Gore said.
Marijuana residue and alcohol were found there leading to a misdemeanor charge against Pass for possession.
David Owens was charged with failure to stop at stop sign, DUI other, possession of marijuana more than an ounce with intent within 1,500 feet of church.
Jennifer Owens was charged with possession of marijuana more than an ounce with intent within 1,500 feet of church.
