Calhoun Academy’s offense found its groove Friday night at Delta Academy, but the defense didn’t as the Cougars fell to 0-2 after a 68-30 loss.
The Cougars took a first quarter lead when Danny Norman scored on a 2-yard run. The conversion failed to hold the score at 6-0.
Delta countered in the high scoring opening quarter with a touchdown and successful conversionf ora n 8-6 lead.
The Cougars then reeled off back-to-back scores – an 80-yard run by QB Hunter Harmon and a 3-yard run by Danny Norman – to go up 18-8.
Delta responded with two runs of their own of 48 and 52 yards, and two sucessful 2-point tries to take a 24-18 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
Delta added touchdown runs of 62 and 65 yards and held the Cougars scoreless in the second quarter to open a 40-18 lead at the half.
The Cougars weren’t able to find the end zone in the third quarter either while Delta landed there twice to expand the margin on the scoreboard to 52-18.
The Cougars opened the fourth with a score by Alan Woodcock from 1-yard out. The conversion again failed. Kelby Flemons added a 5-yard scoring run to finish the scoring for Calhoun.
