Around $300 was taken in a break-in at the Calhoun County Courthouse last week.
The break-in was discovered last Friday morning, when employees came in to work.
Deputy Dewyane Winter said entry was through the south window by the exit door of the chancery clerk’s office at the back of the courthouse. The window was broken with a brick.
Drawers were opened in the chancery clerk’s office and the circuit clerk’s office, but nothing was taken, Winter said.
The money was stolen from a locked drawer in the tax assessor’s office.
Winter said they have some leads in the case.
In another matter, two of seven saddles stolen in Big Creek have been recovered.
The saddles were stolen from Jim and Teresa Warner’s barn on CR 426 more than a month ago.
Billy Chandler Jr., 23, Calhoun City was arrested Friday and charged with grand larceny in the incident. He is still in custody in the Calhoun County Jail.
Deputy Dewyane Winter said a warrant had also been issued for Kevin Wayne Bramlett, who had been living in Weir. The saddles were recovered in Tallahatchie County.
