Cougars playoff hopes rely on key matchups this week

This is a pivotal week for Calhoun Academy baseball as they continue to push toward a playoff spot.


The Cougars were scheduled to play at Macon Central on Tuesday and host them Thursday in a pair of district games.
Taylor Shoemake, 2-1, was scheduled to pitch Tuesday. Dusty McGee, 2-1, will take the mound Thursday for the Cougars.
Calhoun Academy is 4-4 overall and 3-1 in district play. Central is 2-1 in the district thus far.
Winona Christian remains the top team in the district after defeating the Cougars 14-1 last week.
McGee took the loss for the Cougars who managed only three hits in the game. Garrett Coffey had two of the three hits and scored the only CA run. Hunter Brown accounted for the other hit.
In non-district action, the Cougars fell 7-1 to Central Holmes. Hunter Brown, 0-2, took the losss. The Cougars had five hits in the game but stranded eight runners on base.
After the two games with Central, the Cougars will play a double-header Friday at Strider.
