The Calhoun City Wildcats continued their strong start to the basketball season with a couple of road wins over the Thanksgiving holidays against Oxford and Amory.
‘City traveled to Oxford last Tuesday where the Wildcats took an early lead in a closely contested first half. An 18-9 second period run, led by strong inside play from Taborris Coffey, pushed the Wildcats in front at the half.
They maintained that lead in the second half for the 71-63 win. Dartavian Primer led the Wildcats with 20 points. Coffey chipped in 12 as well as J.R. Jennings. Carl Smith led Oxford with 15.
Saturday, the Wildcats traveled to Houston for the Hilltopper’s Thanksgiving tournament where they defeated Amory 80-50. It was never much of a game as ‘City opened a 7-point lead after one period and led by 19 at the half.
Jennings led with 19 points. Charlie Easley scored 18 and Coffey added 15.
The Lady Wildcats were also in action at Oxford last week. They suffered a 66-50 defeat. Sarica Coffey led the Lady Wildcats with 14 points.
