Raymond Newman, 64, of Houston,?Tx., died February 4, 2014 at Park Manor Nursing Home, The Woodlands, Tx. He was born April 6, 1949 in Jackson, MS, the son of Raymond Roane Newman and Thelma Davis Newman. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, and was a retired IRS?agent. Leslie Wayne Collins, known as “Chick” to his family and friends, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at the age of 89. He was born in Calhoun County, January 4, 1924 to the late Jesse Leland and Jettie Valeria Kimsey Collins. He is the beloved father of Ava Jo Collins of New Orleans, LA and Dr. Steven Wayne Collins of Slidell, LA. Calhoun City will play Bassfield Friday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m. in Mississippi Veterans’ Memorial Stadium in Jackson for the Class 2A State Championship after defeating Baldwyn 31-0 last Friday night in the North Half Title game.
Syble Massey Brasher, 89, of Bruce, died August 18, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North MS in Oxford. She was born July 6, 1924 in Merigold, the daughter of Truman Zack and Alpha Card Massey. She was a homemaker, member of Bruce First Baptist Church, and was a 1938 graduate of Bruce High School. She attended Jackson Commercial College.
