Thomas Haman

Master storyteller, loving father, World War II veteran, and driving school pioneer Thomas L. Haman passed away Thursday after 95 adventure-packed years. He taught himself to drive at a young age in Pittsboro in one of the only cars in town. He hitchhiked his way across the south, beginning college at King College in Bristol, TN, before World War II. Hubert Sanders

Hubert H. Sanders, 83, died Monday, December 29, 2014 at his home in Water Valley.  He was born April 7, 1931 in Calhoun County, to the late Hiram and Minnie Keeton Sanders Laughlin. He served in the United States Air Force, worked for years as plant manager for Big Yank, then retired as plant panager for Barth Manufacturing Corporation.  He was a member of the Odd Fellows, VFW, and played with the Vallie Echoes Band. He was a faithful member of Jumper’s Chapel Methodist Church and enjoyed serving in the choir as guitarist. He enjoyed music, woodworking and spending time with friends and family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His family was his life and he always put them first. He was a kind, generous and wonderful man who touched many lives.  [Read more...]

Jesse Norris Sr.

Jesse James Norris Sr., 70, of Bruce died December 18, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He was born March 2, 1944 in Vardaman, the son of George and Earlene Norris. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and deacon chairman, where he faithfully served until his death. He was a God-fearing man who loved, believed and trusted in God’s word. He was a member of National Guard, having graduated from basic training in Fort Leonardwood, Mo. He served as a Bruce alderman three years. He sang with the “Chosen Wonders” of Bruce and the group later changed their name to “The Shining Stars” of which he was a member for 56 years. He received a BA degree from MS Industrial College in 1966 and was a teacher in the Coffeeville School system over 20 years, until he retired. [Read more...]

Michael Willis Wilder, 59, of Pittsboro,  died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at his residence. Born March 1, 1955, he was the son of the late Willis Wilder and the late Ora and Raymond Langdon. Mary Glenda Park Scott, 72, peacefully passed away in the presence of her family Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014, at Floy Dyer Manor in Houston. She was born August 8, 1942, in Tennessee to Glen Earnie Park and Sallie Evans Park. She was a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid cook, and often cooked for others. She loved playing Bridge and watching her grandchildren play sports. She was a devoted follower of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. She was also a Mary Kay consultant for 15 years.
