Robert E. “R.E.” Vance, 83, of Houston, died Friday, May 16, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born April 6, 1931, in Clay County to Frank Burkett Vance and Mary Elizabeth Walls Vance. He was a retired fitting welder for B & W, a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, a Purple Heart recipient from the Korean Conflict Veteran, the past All American Commander of the Tupelo VFW Post 4057 for the years of 1990 and 1991. He was born March 17, 1941 in Calhoun County. He was a Baptist minister, teacher, coach and principal in the following counties:  Calhoun, Pontotoc, Lafayette, Chickasaw, Carroll, Clay and Quitman. Ralph Martin

Ralph David Martin, 71, of Big Creek, was called home Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Grenada Lake Medical Center in Grenada. He was born October 7, 1942 in Yazoo City, the son of William Reed Martin and Hattie Mae Mulvihill Martin. He was a member of Carrolton Baptist Church. He had served his country in the U.S. Air Force. During his early years, he worked at the BellSouth Telephone Company in Greenwood, and he was a pilot. After moving to Big Creek in 1973, he was the co-owner of Martin’s Grocery. He was an avid, well-known fisherman who truly loved spending time on the lake and time with his family. [Read more...]
