Mary Otye Vance Hitt, 89, Kossuth, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014 at her home in Kossuth.  She was born May 3, 1925 to Robert Carl Vance and Margaret Eunice Spencer Vance  in Calhoun County. She grew up in Slate Springs area and joined Spring Hill Baptist Church at an early age. She graduated from Slate Springs High School and attended Mississippi College in Clinton and taught at Slate Springs School. She loved gardening, flowers, birds and music. Ernestine (Tina) B. Miller-Simmons, of Alexandria, VA, died August 14, 2014 after suffering a fall and several years of declining health.  Born on September 17, 1929, in Calhoun City, to Blandina and Ernest Bounds, Tina served in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman 1st Class. She married Ronald “Tiny” D. Miller (USAF retired) who died 1978. The Air Force took Tina and Tiny to Germany and a host of other locations before they eventually settled in Alexandria, VA.
