•31st A.D. Goodman Scholarship Banquet will be Saturday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. at the St. Luke Masonic Lodge in Bruce. Scholarship recipient is Khadijah Thompson. Guest speaker is Elder Richard Freelon. •Calhoun City Public Library will be closed on the following days for the holidays:  Thanksgiving: Nov. 27–Nov. 30.  Christmas: Dec. 25 – Dec. 28. New Years: Jan 1 –Jan. 4.  For more information, call 662-628-6331.

•Bruce LIONS CLUB Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 6 starting at 4:30 p.m. from the Bruce High School. Floats will be provided some expense money. Prizes for floats will awarded. •Santa will be on the Bruce Square from 2-3:30 p.m. prior to the Bruce Christmas Parade Saturday, Dec. 6. Santa  will be available for pictures and must leave at 3:30 p.m. sharp to prepare for the parade.

•BRUCE ARTS COUNCIL will host a FREE showing of the movie Home Alone 2 Saturday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. at the theater on the square. Concessions will be sold to support the arts council. Children 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult.

•ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY at Calhoun City National Guard for retirees and current members is December 6 at noon.

•VARDAMAN Christmas Parade will be Thursday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. More details will be released later.

•FOOD FOR FAMILIES FOOD DRIVE… Calhoun County Extension Office is again participating in the WTVA Food for Families Food Drive. Bring any canned good or non perishable food item for our food container. All donated items will stay in Calhoun County.

•DRIVER’S LICENSE RENEWAL station is open in Pittsboro every third Tuesday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the old tax assessor’s office/church building near the entrance to the Multi-Purpose Building on Hwy 9.

•COUNTRY COUPLES/LINE DANCING classes are being held on the second and fourth Tuesday nights at each month at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Calhoun City. For more information call 628-0617.

•FREE ADULT BASIC EDUCATION/GED preparation classes are held at the Bruce Adult Education Center on Newburger Ave. Call Ada Armstrong 414-6063 or the center 983-2038. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday 9- noon, 5-8 p.m. Counseling 2 Career (C2) for ages 17-21 (out of school) available. Teachers are Ada Armstrong and Margaret Mays.
