•BIG CREEK SCHOOL REUNION will be Saturday, Aug. 2 at Paisley’s Steak House in Big Creek from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Buffet lunch at noon, $9.

•GENUINE SOCIAL CLUB, of Bruce, will have a roadblock in Bruce Saturday, Aug. 2 from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. Proceeds go to St. Jude. For info, call JoJo, 414-0659.

•LIFT, INC. will hold a public hearing Monday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. at the Lift Office, located at 166 Shannon Street in Pittsboro. The purpose of this hearing is to receive input on the needs of the community. Programs operated by Lift Inc. will be discussed. •EXCEL Pre-registration for After School Tutoring begins Aug. 4 for families not already pre-registered for the new academic year. This puts a child’s name on the roster.  Families will be notified by Aug. 8 that the child has a place in the program. Contact Excel: 628-5165.

•VARDAMAN HIGH SCHOOL will host a meeting for all parents of U.S. history students on Tuesday, Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. during the school’s Back To School Open House.

•PEDEN FAMILY REUNION will be Saturday, Aug. 9 beginning at 10 a.m. at Bruce Community Center. Potluck lunch. All relatives and friends are invited.

•Calhoun saddle club upcoming showdates are August 9, August 23, Sept. 13, Sept. 20 and Oct. 11 at the Arena at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Training is at noon and show at 1 p.m. Ranch sorting at each show, entry $25, payback $10 per head.

•COLOR FOR A CAUSE RUN will be Saturday, Aug. 23 in Houston. Registration 7:30-8:45 a.m. First group of runners leaves at 9:15.
