•BRUCE FOOTBALL is selling chicken plates as a fundraiser. Chicken plates will include a grilled chicken quarter, corn on the cob, baked potato and a roll. Cost is $10. Plates can be picked up Saturday, Nov. 1, from 4-6 p.m. at the football field concession stand. Please make checks payable to BHS Booster Club. Money and orders due Wednesday, Oct. 29. •QUICK BITES will meet Thursday, Oct. 30 at noon at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Interested in Pinterest Lara Bowman, will show the group how to use the fastest growing social media site. You will learn how to discover pins and create boards about topics and ideas that interest you.

•Toy Drive… Fine Arts Club of Bruce will hold its 5th Annual Toy Drive benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Saturday, Nov. 1 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in front of Fred’s and Piggly Wiggly in Bruce. Club members will be collecting new small toys (no stuffed animals) as well as monetary donations for toy purchases for children receiving treatment at the hospital.

•CPR CLASS with AED for a two year certification will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 1 at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at Excel in Calhoun City. Cost is $35 to be paid when registering. Deadline is noon on Thursday, Oct. 30. For info call 628-5165.

•J.D. BROWN MEMORIAL TRAIL RIDE for St. Jude will be Saturday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. at Mud Creed Bottom Rd, north of Pontotoc Stock Yard. Lunch following ride, then auction. Wagons welcome. •RETIRED TEACHERS’ ASSN  will meet Monday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. at Jeffery’s in Bruce. Dr. Charlotte Oakley will be the speaker. All are invited.

•Pieces and Patches will meet Mondays, Nov. 3  and 17 at 1 p.m. at the Multipurpose Building. Everyone is welcome to attend.

•Calhoun County MHV Council will meet Monday, Nov. 3, at 5:30 p.m. at the home of Linda Doler.  All members are urged to attend. Officers for president, treasurer, historian, environment, health and nutrition, international, awards and recognition and nominating will be elected. Also discuss MHV Awards Banquet.

•QUICK BITES will be Thursday, Nov. 6 at noon at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro with Lynette McDougald,The University Florist, will talk about Mississippi’s Bounty with center pieces for your holiday tables.

• Salad Luncheon… Fine Arts Club of Bruce will hold a Fall Salad Luncheon Friday, Nov. 7 from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Bruce First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.  Tickets are $6, dine in or carry out and are available at Jeffery’s or from any club member.  Proceeds go to Local Reading Programs.

•1st Jimmy Don Hardin Memorial Trail Ride  will be Saturday, Nov. 8 in the Reid Community. Twentieth Century Club and friends of Jim are sponsoring the ride with all proceeds going to Calhoun County Relay for Life.

•BLESSING OTHERS YOUTH & RANCH RODEO will be Saturday, Nov. 8 in the at the Agri-Center in Pittsboro. Speed events at 4 p.m., barrels, poles, arena race, junior steer riding, $5 per entry. Age groups for speed events– 8 & under, 9-13, 14-18, 19 & over. Awards in each group. Ranch rodeo 5-event competition begins at 6 p.m. $50 per person or $200 per team. Buckles to overall average team and payout to fastest time in each event. Open 4D barrel race (payout) at halftime of ranch rodeo. •SWEET POTATO COOKING CONTEST will be Saturday, Nov. 8. Categories are: Cakes, Miscellaneous (Desserts), Men’s, Pies, Miscellaneous (Others), Youth (12-18), Low Calorie and Children (under 12). The Mayor’s Cup will be presented at the Banquet Saturday night to the over-all winner.  The contest is open to the public. The recipe must be original and unpublished. The prepared dish and the recipe (without personal information) should be brought to the Vardaman School cafeteria between noon-1:00 p.m. Refrigeration not available. •HOLIDAY BAZAAR… Holiday Bazaar will be held Friday, Nov. 14 from 10 a.m -6 p.m. at the Multipurpose Building in Pittsboro. The MHV will set up on November 13 at 2 p.m., and will need plenty of help. Happy Homemakers will be serving soup and sandwiches for lunch. Lunch available for dine in or carry out, $6 per plate.

•BRUCE BURST OF COLOR 5K RUN/WALK will be Saturday, Nov. 15. Event begins and ends at BHS. Registration at 7 a.m., run/walk at 8 a.m. Proceeds to build pressbox and new lights for BHS softball field. •Create Club will meet on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Community Building up on the hill by the Sheriff’s Office. Group will be making Christmas tree from pallets. If you know where we could get some pallets from, please let us know. You must RSVP by Friday, Nov.14 if you plan to participate. This project will involve a lot of prep work and there will be no time for last minute additions. Fees will be added as soon as supplies are added.

•QUICK BITES will be Thursday, Nov. 20  at noon at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro with Dr. Wayne Porter, talking about backyard fruit production.

•Gardener’s Delight and Master Gardeners will meet Monday, Nov. 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Multipurpose Building in Pittsboro for the yearly planning meeting with a potluck meal.  Everyone is invited to attend.

•Bruce Christmas Parade will be Saturday, Dec. 6, starting from Bruce High School at 4:30 p.m. Theme will be “Christmas at Grandma’s.” Grand Marshal for the parade will be Lakyn Burt.

•VARDAMAN Christmas Parade will be Thursday, Dec. 11 at 6:30 p.m. More details will be released later.

•FOOD FOR FAMILIES FOOD DRIVE… Calhoun County Extension Office is again participating in the WTVA Food for Families Food Drive. Bring any canned good or non perishable food item for our food container. All donated items will stay in Calhoun County.

•DOG LOVERS! LEAGUE FOR NO-KILL SHELTER meets the first Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Bruce Park Pavilion. For info, call 983-7471.

•DRIVER’S LICENSE RENEWAL station is open in Pittsboro every third Tuesday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the old tax assessor’s office/church building near the entrance to the Multi-Purpose Building on Hwy 9.

•COUNTRY COUPLES/LINE DANCING classes are being held on the second and fourth Tuesday nights at each month at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Calhoun City. For more information call 628-0617.
