•BUES ANNUAL HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL Thursday, Oct. 23 from 5-7:30 p.m. at Bruce Upper Elementary School. For info, call 983-3366.

•QUICK BITES will meet Thursday, Oct. 23 at noon at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Topic will be Mississippi Sweet Potatoes with Sylvia Clark. Learn the health benefits, economical value, ease of preparation, and variety of sweet potato dishes for year-round healthy eating.

•Beef Producers meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Call at 412-3177 no later than Tuesday, Oct. 21, to allow purchasing supplies for the meal.

•BLACK GIRLS ROCK OF MS will be hosting the 1st Annual Breast Cancer Walk Saturday, Oct. 25 at the CCHS walking track. Free registration which will start at 8:30 a.m. and walk begins at 9 a.m. The theme is “PINKed Out For A Cure.” Come dressed in pink.

•MCGREGER REUNION will be Sunday, Oct. 26 at Vardaman Community Center. Potluck meal at noon. All relatives and friends are invited.

•Gardener’s Delight and Master Gardeners will meet Monday, Oct. 27 at the Multipurpose Building at 6:30 p.m. with Melisha Sims from Pocket Full of Posies. Ms. Sims will be demonstrating how to decorate a pumpkin for a fall table setting. You may make project along with her. You will need to purchase a pumpkin (fresh or artificial-fresh will not last long) and a garland of fall leaves. Ms. Sims recommended Styrofoam/plastic pumpkins (about $5) or any artificial one that you can cut the top off.  Everyone is invited to attend.

•LEADER TRAINING… Sheriff Greg Pollan will be guest speaker for Leader Training Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. at the Multipurpose Building. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

•QUICK BITES will meet Thursday, Oct. 30 at noon at the Multi-Purpose Building in Pittsboro. Interested in Pinterest Lara Bowman,  will show the group how to use the fastest growing social media site. You will learn how to discover pins and create boards about topics and ideas that interest you.

•J.D. BROWN MEMORIAL TRAIL RIDE for St. Jude will be Saturday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. at Mud Creed Bottom Rd, north of Pontotoc Stock Yard. Lunch following ride, then auction. Wagons welcome. •SWEET POTATO COOKING CONTEST will be Saturday, Nov. 8, during the 40th Annual Sweet Potato Festival in Vardaman. Categories are: Cakes, Miscellaneous (Desserts), Men’s, Pies, Miscellaneous (Others), Youth (12-18), Low Calorie and Children (under 12). The Mayor’s Cup will be presented at the Banquet Saturday night to the over-all winner.  The contest is open to the public. The recipe must be original and unpublished. The prepared dish and the recipe (without personal information) should be brought to the Vardaman School cafeteria between noon-1:00 p.m. Refrigeration not available. •HOLIDAY BAZAAR… Calhoun County MHV Council is hosting the Calhoun County MHV Holiday Bazaar Friday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Multipurpose Building in Pittsboro. The MHV Council invites vendors (clubs-individuals-businesses) to participate. Refundable registration fee is $10. Vendors must register before November 7. •BRUCE BURST OF COLOR 5K RUN/WALK rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15. Event begins and ends at BHS. Registration begins at 7 a.m., run/walk at 8 a.m. Proceeds go to build pressbox and new lights for BHS softball field.
