Calhoun County unemployment continued to be among the lowest in Northeast Mississippi and in the lower half statewide in December.
Calhoun County’s unemployment rate in Decemer was 10.2%, according to a report released by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security. That’s a slight decrease from the 10.5% recorded in November.
Only 27 counties in the state had a lower rate and Calhoun was within one percent of being in the top 15.
Unemployment figures also improved in surrounding counties with the largest decrease in Pontotoc County from 12.3 in November to 11% in December.
Lafayette remained the only surrounding county with a lower rate than Calhoun at 7.5%, down slight from 7.6% in November.
The highest rate in the region contnues to be Chickasaw County at 13.7%. That was an improvement from 14.4% in November.
The statewide unemployment rate in December was 9.7%. The national unemployment rate was 9.1%.
