Calhoun City made easy work of JZ George Friday night with a 42-6 win at home to open the 2013 Class 2A playoffs.
The Wildcats will travel to Walnut next week for round two.
Levarious Varnado, who finished with 116 yards rushing, scored the game's first points on a 64 yard run. He would add a 10-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter for a 14-0 Wildcat lead.
Cartin McBride, who set up the Wildcats' next possession with a punt return to the JZ 25 yard line, scored on an 5-yard run for a 21-0 advantage for 'City.
Three plays later, McBride returned an interception 35 yards for a touchdown for a 28-0 lead.
Varnado would cap a quick 48-yard drive on the Wildcats next possession with a 1-yard touchdown run for a 35-0 score.
JZ would add a fourth quarter touchdown with mostly backups in the game for Calhoun City.
Freshman Jesse Nabors followed a 42 yard run with a 7-yard carry into the end zone for the Wildcats' final score and the 42-6 final.
Wildcat QB Chakel Gates completed six of eight passes for 87 yards.
The Wildcat defense dominated the game much of the night.
Through three quarters the JZ offense managed only 44 yards, four punts and two turnovers – the interception by McBride and a fumble recovered by James Hervey.
