Calhoun Academy teams prepare for division tournament

Calhoun Academy teams still have regular season games remaining tonight at Veritas and next Monday at Delta, but their positions in the upcoming division tournament are set.

The Cougars, 6-5 overall, 3-5 in division, have clinched the third seed.

They will play Hebron in the opening round of the division tournament Friday, Feb. 8 at 8:30 p.m. in Mathiston.

The Cougars lost both games to Hebron this season.

Regardless of the outcome, the Cougars will advance to the North Half tournament the following week which Calhoun Academy will host.

The Lady Cougars, 2-11 overall and 2-6 in division play, will host Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in a division tournament play-in game.

A loss to Central and the Lady Cougars’ season will end.

Last week, both teams suffered losses to Kemper, Hebron and Winona Christian.

Kemper topped the Lady Cougars 44-31 with Anna Grace Turner scoring 14 and Regan Hubbard seven. The boys were defeated 56-47 with Cameron Bryant scoring 17, Cory Baggett 13, and Hunter Harmon 12.

Hebron beat the Lady Cougars 48-41. Miranda McCormick led with 10 points. Courtney Hubbard scored nine, Anna Grace Turner and Hunter Robertson each scored six. The boys fell 59-42. Bryant and Baggett led with 18 and 12 respectively.

Winona beat the Lady Cougars 63-13. McComrick scored five and Turner four. The boys were beaten 64-37. Bryant scored 10, Baggett seven, Josh Turner and Chandon Harcrow six.
