Bruce Police to host “Prescription Drug Take Back Day” event

By JOEL McNEECE
The Bruce Police Department will participate in the “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day” in which citizens can dispose of unwanted and unused prescription drugs.

Bruce Policeman Mike Campbell said the Bruce Fire Department will serve as the collection site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. The National Take Back Day will overlap with Red Ribbon Week which is designed to raise awareness of drug use and drug related problems.
Campbell said the abuse of prescription drugs is becoming one of the biggest issues local law enforcement deal with.
In 2009, 7-million people over the age of 12 used prescription drugs for non-medical reasons during the month prior to being surveyed, according to the U.S. Dept. of Justice. The majority of Americans who abused prescription drugs obtained them from friends, family or from their home medicine cabinets. The Take Back Day enables people to safely dispose of prescription drugs in their home they no longer need. For more information contact Mike Campbell at 983-2450.
