The Bruce golf team earned a trip to the Class 2A state tournament after winning the region 2-2A title at Yoda Creek last week.
Bruce shot 352 to earn first with T.J. Morgan winning overall medalist with a two-under 70.
Ackerman took second with a 373. They will also advance to state. Calhoun City placed third with a 380, followed by Hamilton 404 and Hatley 453.
Calhoun City’s Noah Hill shot a 78 to qualify for the state tournament as an individual.
Other Bruce golfers scores were Matthew Wilburn 87, Parker Ellard 94, Casey Vance 101, and Jordan Cain 110.
Other Calhoun City golf scores were Jace Leachman 94, Jacob Ruth 100, Steele Liles 108, and Clint Wolfe 111.
The State Tournament will be held at The Trace in Tupelo May 11-12. The host team is Baldwyn.
“I am very excited on how well our team has done this year,” Bruce coach Allan Clarke said. “They have really worked hard. The team has progressed throughout the season and now they get to experience the state tournament. This will be something they will never forget.”
T.J. Morgan will be aiming for his second consecutive individual state championship.
“T.J. has played real well in all our matches this year,” Clarke said. “He has won medalist in almost every tournament this year. The thing that sets T.J. apart from others is that he does not show a lot of emotion after his rounds. When he wins by 10 shots or loses by one, he is the same.”
“I have not talked to him about it but I know he would really like to repeat as state champion,” Clarke said. “He has a great chance but this game can be crazy at times. The Trace is a course that he has played several times over the years and normally has done well. The one thing that T.J. told me was that he is proud of the rest of the team being able to make it to the state tournament. He wanted them to be able to experience the excitement of the state tournament.”
