Bruce defeats Calhoun City 14-4 in five innings in first meeting of the season

The Bruce Trojans earned a 14-4 win over Calhoun City in the first meeting of the 2013 season between the two rivals.

Joseph Lester earned the win for Bruce pitching all five innings in the Saturday afternoon matchup at the East Webster tournament.

Colby Havens took the loss for Calhoun City.

Singles by Trey Hall and Rashad Turner and a double by Taylor Shoemake keyed a 3-run first for the Trojans to open the game.

The Wildcats quickly answered with three in the bottom of the first after Rainer Nichols and Ryne Lee led off with doubles.

Bruce came back with two in the second inning where they stole three bases and Taylor Shoemake delivered an RBI single.

Bruce blew the game open in the fourth when they posted seven runs. Among the big hits in the inning were RBI singles by Shoemake and Bailey Nix.

A 2-run triple by Benji Haire in the fifth gave Bruce a 14-3 lead heading to the bottom of the inning.

The Wildcats managed one run off Lester, but couldn’t plate anymore to extend the game.
