Bruce and Calhoun City girls’ basketball teams both won their season openers last Saturday at the Loggins Classic at Calhoun City.
Tiesa Steen scored 23 points to lead the Lady Trojans to a 47-32 win over Grenada. Akeyshelah Tillman added 10 points for Bruce.
Destinee Bush scored 19 to lead the Lady Wildcats to a 76-60 win over Vardaman. Zana Mills added 14, Vlenchia Farmer 13 and Antonique Jennings 12 for Calhoun City.
Keuntray Tubbs led Vardaman with 26 points. Deidre Rose scored 16.
The Calhoun City boys also played at the end of the day. Biggersville topped them 65-50. Tyius Jennings led ‘City with 20 points. Jawon Walker scored 13 and Austin Burl 11.
Calhoun City still has several team members playing football.
In other girls’ action at the tournament, Water Valley beat Eupora 49-46; Charleston defeated Houston 61-34 and Lafayette County beat Coffeeville 74-60.
